Why I do Goat Farming

Hello Guys, thank you for being  here once again am Kolide a goat farmer in Marereni.

Here I share some knowledge, opinions .. etc on goat farming you might find some very useful. My opinions  are based on my experiences with my goats though  at the beginning  I  used to google a lot. So enough  with the introduction, let's get into why I do this in the first place.

1. Passion

I started goat farming  by accident  just mere curiosity. I don't have a degree or certificate on animal husbandry or any other form of education.  I remember  my first goat which I named "Alpha"  was a barter trade for fees. My father owned a primary school where one parent decided to pay a young male goat(buckling) for fees. I could not sleep that night I took photos had a closeup view. It had a white body and  black speckles on the head. After  few days i realized it was lonely because it followed me around crying when I was leaving, so after 2 weeks I decided to purchase a young female goat (doeling) @ Ksh 2500  which I hard earned by Signwriting on donated water tanks. It felt amazing watching them graze giving them grains I treated them like my own children!

2. Income

You see keeping animals like goats is cool and fun but you can as well earn. Since March 2019 till now March 2022 I have sold over 30 goats. When you over come challenges like abortion, stress and good nutrition goats multiply fairly well. I started with two goats I did not stop buying till I had 25 does and a buck, sometimes  I even swipe some buckling for does or even foolishly  gave out two goats for one since I preferred  the galla goats over  the Small East African goats. More or less to date I have over 80 goats a good saving to withdraw from incase of financial  hurdles.

3. Goats are better

When you start rearing animals do a SWOT analysis. Through out my little  time I learnt climate is a major threat to thriving of animals. The weather is tougher, more dry and very hot cattles can't  resist as much but goats can manage to endure the dry seasons. Goats  are fond of browsing scavenging dropped dead leaves and fruits/seeds from trees. Goats drink moderate amounts of water compared to cattle but don't  deny them water. Goats deliver thrice in two years therefore multiplying faster than cattle, they need less space for enclosure and pocket friendly  on medications.

Conclusion

There  you go those are the three main reasons  I do goat farming. Whatever other motive falls in any of the three e.g goats grow fast they deliver twins, they've ready market... and so on their meat is delicious! Of course.
